Why You Will Like This Recipe

It's been a while since I've had to go grocery shopping for Cheerios cereal and the price of Cheerios is outrageous now (2024). Instead of getting a name brand box of cereal I just went over to Aldi's and got a box there instead. Same ingredients, probably made the same way and a box was only 2.50. Crazy times, I tell ya. So, go to Aldi if you are on a budge like I am.

I recently updated this recipe and some of the ingredients changed, so apologies to those that were looking for the old version. This version of cheerio bars is way easier!

Have you ever had scotcheroos before? These kind of remind me of them but they are made with Cheerios instead of Rice Krispies. To make these more Weight Watcher friendly, I reduced the amount of sugar being used.

Whenever I bake, I like to use real sugar instead of substitutes. Once, I tried making peanut butter cookies with Stevia and those turned out really bad! Hope you enjoy!

Ingredients Needed

  • Peanut butter - is a delicious spread that is made from ground peanuts. One of the key benefits of peanut butter is its high protein content. It is a great source of plant-based protein, making it an ideal choice for vegetarians and vegans
  • Cheerios - Like I mentioned above please go to Aldi and get the Meville brand of Cheerios. They are similar to the regular brand of Cheerios and do the same thing.
  • Honey - When it comes to choosing the best honey to use, there are a few factors to consider. Firstly, opting for raw honey is generally a good choice as it is minimally processed and retains more of its natural vitamins, enzymes, and antioxidants compared to processed honey.
  • Mini chocolate chips (optional) - are a delightful addition to a variety of baked goods and desserts. These tiny morsels of chocolate are perfect for adding a burst of rich chocolate flavor and a bit of texture to your creations.

Peanut Butter Cheerio Bar Tips:

Add some parchment paper to the pan to help easily get the bars out of the pan. Or you can spray the pan with non stick cooking spray.

Melt the sugar, corn syrup, and peanut butter on low heat. If stove burner is on too high the recipe might not work out properly.

Can I use something else other than cheerios? Instead of Cheerios you can use cornflakes, Reese’s puffs, or Rice Crispy bars. These Cheerio bars kind of remind me of Scotcheroos which are made of Rice Krispies.

How do I store leftovers?

Always store leftovers in clean, food-grade containers. The type of container doesn’t really matter. Use zip lock, glass, plastic, whatever! Make sure to store any leftovers in an airtight container.

Hi - since white sugar isn't vegan, could I use beet sugar instead? Have you tried that?
