I like the simplicity and adaptability of this recipe. I cut the honey down to one T or so, and subbed applesauce for 4 T of the oil. I added a touch extra to make up for the moisture lost by cutting back the honey. Turned it tasty and plenty sweet for me.

Miranda

Chocolate chips made a great addition..and when do they not!

I followed this exactly and I am an experienced cook. These look good but have little to no taste. Its not sweet, you can't taste the peanut butter. The salt on top pushes it away from sweet to... neutral. Perhaps this is for "special" diets. It feels like food-by-committee. Just don't. Really.

Val

Followed recipe, used almond butter in place of peanut butter. No overarching flavor, even the banana gets lost somehow. So bland I looked over the ingredient list several times to make sure I added everything.

Agree with comments these are too salty. Recommend halving the salt, or even less. Like the texture and found them reasonably tasty. I'll make these again, but with less salt and perhaps adding raisins or dried cranberries.

Reduce olive oil to 2 Tablespoons .Apple sauce 4.5 Tablespoons Reduce honey to 1 Tablespoons

The amount of salt in my opinion ruined this recipe for me. Couldn't eat it. I would add half or a quarter of what the recipe called for.

I found the cook time on this long so I’ll make it again as breakfast cookies. I agree with what other people said that they’re bland, I would add some raisins, craisins, and/or chocolate chips next time.

CM

I ignored the negative reviews and made them anyway. They just don't taste good. Even with less salt and added coconut I thought I could beat it, but no.

I took to heart many of the comments that these are quite bland, with no discernible flavor profile. So I doubled all the spices, used about 5 tablespoons of honey and used toasted hazelnuts on top. Still, after all that extra love given, these are godawful and should never be made! This recipe should be binned, just like the batch I made.

Alex

These were super disappointing. Was hoping for something a bit more flavourful with so many expensive ingredients.

Cynthia

This was so good we made another batch three days after the first one! Added a tablespoon of chia seeds to amp up the protein. I don’t get the other comments about too much salt, bland, etc. This recipe is legit.

Made these the minute I saw the recipe--great fit with what I needed to use up!. Halfway in, I realized I had lost my 8X8 baking pan so made in a round pan and cut it into wedges. Was it good? We gobbled the first two pieces, so yes.

Based on other reviews I skipped the salt. I love this recipe. Easy, tasty, perfect for a breakfast bar.) If you’re looking for something else, try a pastry.)

MaryBerry

Mushy and bland. Threw it away, seemed undercooked even though I baked it 20 minutes longer.

Celine

Anything with cinnamon I quadruple the amount. I halved the honey and used hemp sead oil. Without my extravagant use of cinnamon I can see how they would be bland. I love the idea of adding chia. Overall, I'm a fan!

While I don’t hate these, they are not a favourite. I read comments after I made them and have to agree that there is too much salt and not enough of a dominant flavour. If I make them again I think I will add dried fruit and maybe stir in some extra nuts.

Added cinnamon sugar to the top at the end instead of salt, and also added chocolate chips to the mixture. Turned out really good and my friends liked them as well. Good gluten free option.

no! tastes awful. don’t bother

I made these pretty much to the recipe with the exception of cutting back on the salt by half as well as the honey. I also mixed the walnuts in the batter so added some extra on the top after noticing my mistake. I did not add salt to the top. One thing I should have taken into consideration was that my peanut butter had no sugar. The texture was fine but as others have commented they were boring. I will make again and use the original amount of salt, perhaps use agave syrup-lower GI than honey.

I liked these but the consistency was less cake than I'd hoped. The flavor was good but somewhat bland, neither sweet nor salty. It tasted too much peanut butter so perhaps 3/4 c peanut butter is a bit too much and the almonds made it very nutty. I wouldn't rush to make it again but I agree that adding chocolate chips would give it nice flavor.

I love to bake & try new recipes. Made these this morning and no one in our house enjoyed them. I realized they were gluten-free and brought them over to a neighbor who is gluten-free and thought maybe she'd enjoy them? Saw another neighbor along the way and offered one to her. Neither she, nor my other neighbor (who both tried to be kindly polite) could stomach them. On a positive note, my dog and each of the neighbors' dogs thought they were scrumptious.

We thought they were amazing! Reduced salt to 1/2 tsp and added an extra 1/4 cup of oats. I don’t know why people are saying they have no flavor—I thought they were full of flavor! This recipe will be on repeat for us.

Made this yesterday and my husband I I polished off two bars each this morning. Neither of us understand the hate for this recipe. I halved the honey and added nutmeg cloves, and left everything else as written. Filling, tasty, not too sweet. Will make again. Travels well for breakfast on the go.

These are easy to make and are great to have available for breakfast all week. Followed the recipe except used maple syrup instead of honey, almond butter, and used only 4 TBSP oil (I was worried my almond butter was too oily). Mine came out a bit dry so next time would use the full 6 TBSP. For anyone who thinks the banana flavor is lost - make sure to weigh your ingredients, my bananas were small so I ended up needing 3 (and still only got to 220g).

We liked them, but prefer something not too sweet and filling for breakfast or a mid day snack. Used about 4T honey, coconut oil instead of olive oil, a little more cinnamon, a little nutmeg, and half the salt per other reviews. I did end up having to add about twice the oats to thicken up the batch, and I let it sit for an hour, so the oats oils thicken up, before popping it into the oven.

Jenny

These were delicious but salty. The recipe called for WAY too much salt so I cut it down to 1 tsp although next time I’ll only use 1/4 tsp. Sprinkled chopped walnuts on top.

Meh at best, as per everyone in the family. Made them according to recipe. No real taste, too much cinnamon and vanilla, definitely too much salt, even though I cut that one in half. Came out mushy and crumbly at the same time, baked per instructions until a toothpick came out clean. The formula could probably use a small addition of a starchy binder and a dab of leavening, just to lift the very compact appearance and taste. Maybe someone will try it, to me it was a waste of good ingredients.
